Functionality of Anti-Static FIBC Bags | Bulk Bags | Big Bags

Various things need to be taken into consideration when it comes to the processes involving transportation of bulk materials. One such area that needs serious attention is the packaging of these goods and that's where FIBC comes into play.

It is extremely important to be perfectly aware of the types of FIBC and to know exactly which type of Bulk Bag will be required for what kind of product. The distinctive aspect of these FIBCs is that they are made from polypropylene which automatically makes them better packaging materials than conventional jute or cotton bags.

Coming to anti-static properties of packaging containers, FIBC has a certain type that offers this benefit. Read on to understand what exactly is meant by the anti-static feature and how do FIBCs help offer this property to your packaging needs.

What do we mean by anti-static?

Anti static can be defined as that special property by means of which the buildup of static electricity can be prevented. But how is static electricity generated in a container or a packaging unit? This usually happens when two insulating materials come in close contact with each other creating friction between them. This friction then causes the removal of electrons from the materials thereby initiating the flow of static electricity.

How FIBCs help prevent static electricity?

The specially manufactured anti static FIBC bags come with special materials that are able to prevent the flow of free electrons between the materials and the generation of static electricity. Thus, these anti static FIBC bags are considered ideal for packing reactive materials that have a tendency of generating static electricity.

More specifically, the granular and powdered materials that are flammable are stored in these anti static FIBC bags. The tendency to generate static electricity increases when these materials are packed inside the storage bags. A similar situation can even arise when these reactive materials are transported, while packed together in containers.

Situations like these increase the friction of the granules of these reactive materials and enhance the chances of generation of static electricity. Eventually, it may give rise to spontaneous combustion, thereby increasing the risk of mishaps and accidents.

These specially designed Type C FIBC bags are considered the best because they allow proper aeration inside and keep these reactive materials dry.

Moreover, these bags are made from various types of fibers that are conductive in nature and offer surface resistance of less than 1.0 x 104 ohms.

Advantages of anti static FIBC bags

Some of the primary reasons that make anti static FIBC bags ideal for storing reactive materials are as follows:

- Prevent internal combustion of the materials stored inside
- Help in safe storage of combustible materials that generate static electricity
- Offer safe transportation of combustible materials
- Lightweight feature of FIBCs provides ease of convenience during loading and unloading
- FIBCs can be tailored as per the product/industry requirement
- Ideal for environments that have flammable gases which can increase the chances of combustion of packed materials

Points to note:

While these are some of the advantages of the anti static FIBC bags, ensure that you place them firmly on an even ground while filling them with reactive materials. Secondly, these bags should not be kept in direct contact with UV rays, or else they will degrade very soon.
